Cryptocurrency Craps
Bitcoin is becoming an increasingly popular alternative to fiat money in the online gambling industry. This is because it allows faster withdrawal times and total player anonymity. It’s also often cheaper to use than fiat money depending on where you play. Nowadays, there aren’t many cryptocurrency casino games you can’t play using bitcoin. Popular bitcoin casinos like VegasCasino allow users to play a wide variety of slots, roulette, blacjack and other casino games. In this guide, we’ll be looking at everyone’s favourite casino dice game: craps.
How Does Bitcoin Craps Work?
Playing craps using bitcoin is no different to playing it with any other currency. The rules and mechanics are exactly the same, so if you already know how to play, then you’re ready to play it with bitcoin. Just go to an online casino that accepts bitcoin, make a deposit and you’re ready to go. If you don’t know how to play craps, keep on reading and we’ll teach you how. Apple iOS and Google Android users can play craps apps on their phones and tablets.
Why Play Craps?
Craps is as pure a form of gambling as you can get. Players bet on dice rolls – it doesn’t get much simpler than that. Its simplicity is what makes it so popular, especially amongst casino newcomers. You don’t need to remember any complex rules: just place your bet on the table, and if it wins, the base dealers will pay you accordingly. Craps is also an inherently dramatic game that is thrilling both to play and to watch. As such, it’s often the game of choice for casino scenes in film and television.
Rules
At the start of each round, the “shooter” is passed the dice by the player to his or her right. They are then required to bet on either “Pass”, “Don’t Pass”, or both.
Come-out
“Come-out” is the first of two phases of play. If the shooter’s come-out roll is a 7 or 11, known as a “natural”, players who bet on Pass win. If, on the other hand, it’s a 2, 3 or 12, players who bet on Don’t Pass win. This is known as “craps” or “crapping out”.
Point
A come-out roll that is neither craps nor a natural (i.e. is a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10) establishes the “point”, with the rolled number becoming the point number. The dealer’s button is placed on the point number with the “On” side face up so everyone can see. During this phase, the shooter must roll the point number again before rolling a 7 for players who bet on Pass to win. If a 7 is rolled before the point number is rolled, players who bet on Don’t Pass win.
Betting
Line bets
There are a number of line bets that can be placed other than the Pass and Don’t Pass line bets:
Proposition bets
Proposition bets are single-roll bets; that is, they are bets that are decided on the shooter’s next roll of the dice. You can bet on individual numbers or a group of numbers all at once:
There are also some bets that last for the rest of the round:
Strategy
There’s no way to beat the house at craps. However, you can deprive them from as much of their edge as possible to really make the most out of your Bitcoin. To do this, avoid making “sucker” bets that have low payouts relative to their chances of winning. Hardways is generally considered a sucker bet as it has a high house edge of around 10%. Similarly, Big 6 and Big 8 have a high house edge of over 9%; a better alternative is to place bet on 6 or 8. Proposition bets have a much higher house edge than line bets, so should be avoided unless you really want that big payoff.
The important thing to remember when playing craps is to have fun. It’s your Bitcoin, and you should only wager it if you’ll enjoy doing so. After all, that’s what craps is all about!

Betting
Line bets
There are a number of line bets that can be placed other than the Pass and Don’t Pass line bets:
- Come – this bet functions the same as the Pass bet, except they can only be bet on once the point has been established. So, if the first number a shooter rolls after a Come bet is placed is a 7 or 11, the Come bet wins; if it’s a 2, 3 or 12 it loses; and any other number establishes the point number for that specific Come bet.
- Don’t Come – a bet that the Come bet will not win
- Odds on Pass – once the point has been established, Pass players my take additional odds on that point number. The odds vary according to the likelihood of the point number winning.
- Odds on Don’t Pass – Don’t Pass players may lay additional odds on numbers. That is, they can bet a 7 will come before the point number and will be paid at odds inverse to the Pass odds of that number.
Proposition bets
Proposition bets are single-roll bets; that is, they are bets that are decided on the shooter’s next roll of the dice. You can bet on individual numbers or a group of numbers all at once:
- Snake Eyes – a bet the shooter will roll a 2.
- Ace-Deuce – a bet that the shooter will roll a 3.
- Any Seven – a bet that the shooter will roll a 7.
- Yo – a bet that the shooter will roll an 11.
- Boxcars – a bet that the shooter will roll a 12.
- Hi-Lo – a bet that the shooter will roll a 2 or 12.
- Any Craps – a bet that the shooter will roll a 2, 3 or 12.
- Horn – a bet that the shooter will roll a 2, 3, 11 or 12.
- C & E – a player puts half their bet on 2, 3 and 12 and the other half on 11.
- Field – a bet that the shooter will roll any chosen number from 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 and 12.
There are also some bets that last for the rest of the round:
- Hardways – a bet that a 4, 6, 8 or 10 will be rolled “hard” (i.e. with both dice showing the same number).
- Big 6 – a bet that the shooter will roll a 6 before rolling a 7
- Big 8 – a bet that the shooter will roll an 8 before rolling a 7
- Place – a player can place bet on either 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 and will win if that number is rolled before a 7
